Police Investigating After Islamic Scholar Found Murdered

Gauteng police are investigating a case of murder after the body of a man was found in Walkerville, south of Johannesburg. 

It’s understood the body of 64-year-old Moulana Mumtaazul Haq was found in his silver grey Nissan Almera on the R82 road today after police received information from a passerby. 

The polices Mavela Masondo says the motive for the murder is unknown. 

“Police received information that a body that is inside the car. We immediately rushed to the scene, we found that there was a body with a gunshot wound on the upper-body. We then summoned the paramedics who certified the person dead. We are investigating a case of murder.” 

Masondo says no one has been arrested and a manhunt for the suspects has been launched. 

He has appealed to anyone with information about the  murder to contact the police.
