The Almazaahir Institute of Islamic Sciences Trust & Atholl Islamic Community Forum has announced that an application for the rezoning of property in Athol Gardens in Sandton for the construction of a masjid has been approved.
Objections were raised by residents that building a masjid and Islamic centre in Athol would cause traffic congestion including parking issues, excessive water usage and noise pollution by the Athan.
In January, the town Planner and trust representative of The Almazaahir Institute said residents did not understand that there were adequate solutions to objections raised by them for the construction of a masjid.
In a statement the Ameer of the Almazaahir Institute and AICF Executive Mufti Muhammad Minty says they are ecstatic by the outcome.
“We extend our heartfelt appreciation unto all our brothers and sisters who have supported and participated in this campaign. We should nevertheless note that although the application has been approved, there is still a 28 day period wherein the decision could be appealed.”
Mufti Minty says people should continue to make dua and support the subsequent development and construction phase of the masjid.
