MiWay to Lay Charges Against Client Behind Racist E-Mail

July 21, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 21-07-2017

MiWay Insurance says it’s considering taking laying charges against a person responsible for an apparent racist e-mail.

A screen shot from an email surfaced on social media purporting to be from a claims assessor writing that a managerial decision had been taken to reject 90 percent of claims by black people as they were “easy targets” and “baboons”.

CEO René Otto says an internal probe linked the email to a disgruntled client whose claim was rejected.

“He had email contact with us because in the process of validating the claim, we did send the emails. That’s how he got a name of a MiWay staff member, and clearly, he thought the way to punish us was the way he did.”

Otto could not be drawn into either providing the identity of the alleged client, or detailing what the claim was for.

Meanwhile Black First Land First (BLF) says it will visit Miway on Friday at its head office in Centurion to get clarity on the company and its stand on racism.

“BLF has read conflicting statements from the media about the company and we are befuddled to see that Miway has 100% white board of Directors, this alone raises serious questions.”
