Makhozi Khoza: “I Do Care if the ANC Fires Me.”

July 14, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 13-07-2017

African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament (MP) Makhozi Khoza says while she cares if the party fires her for supporting a secret ballot in the motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma, she has to stand for what is morally right.

Khoza was speaking to Radio Islam this morning regarding her views about being defiant about a secret ballot and her call that President Jacob Zuma should step down.

A Facebook post in April attracted threats from the ANC Youth League in Ethekwini who circulated her address on social media.

Khoza has also revealed that her daughter received death threats.

She says while there have been seven votes of no confidence against Zuma in parliament, each time MP’s were instructed by the ANC to vote against the motion.

Khoza says this time she will vote with her conscience even if she gets fired.

“I care if the ANC fires me, of course I do. But if they are firing me because I took a specific stand that is going to stand with my conscience, so be it.”

Khoza says while she has been openly criticised about the secret ballot by Secretary General Gwede Mantashe & chief whip Jackson Mthembu who seem to be anti-Zuma, they must understand that she has been subjected to a lot of intimidation and threats and don’t want the same for her colleagues.

“I honestly don’t believe it is a wise decision given the current prevailing conditions that is marked by high levels of intolerance to have it open”

She says a secret ballot is to protect those who might be casting a vote against violence and intimidation and it must not be looked at as the norm but rather an exceptional case.

The motion of non confidence vote in President Jacob will take place on the 8th of August 2017.
