With more people accessing the web whether it’s at home or their mobile smartphones, internet speed has become a crucial factor when selecting a service provider.

While there are many mobile network providers in South Africa, have you ever wondered who is the fastest?

Tech 24 reports that Technology blog, MyBroadband has crunched the numbers and obtained from their Speed Test app for Android, and uncovered which network reigns supreme in South Africa.

MyBroadband crowned Vodacom as South Africa’s king of speed after its test showed that Vodacom offered the highest average mobile data speeds in the country. Speed Test allows users to gauge the speed of their internet connection.

According to the test results between April and June 2017 Vodacom had clocked download speeds averaging 28.7Mbps, followed by MTN on 26.2Mbps.

Cell C’s upload speed was recorded at 13.5Mbps, while Telkom Mobile came in last at 10.9Mbps.

MyBroadband launched the free app for Android users in April, while their iOS app launched in June. The blog reported that 109 545 speed tests were done using Speed Test.

Vodacom users also conducted the most tests on the app with 53 162 checks, while 31 694 was done by MTN users, 14 419 by Cell C, and 10 270 by Telkom subscribers.
