The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has warned social grants beneficiaries receiving their money at the pay points to verify their cash before leaving.
SASSA say they suspect that pay point officials may be allegedly handing fake bank notes to beneficiaries while assisting them after withdrawing their money.
It says the machines which are used for payment do not allow for fake notes to be dispensed.
Spokesperson Nandi Mosia says beneficiaries should count their money before leaving the pay-point.
“We urge each and every beneficiary when at a pay point to make sure that nobody handles their cash but themselves. As soon as you realise or suspect that the notes you have are fake notes, don not leave the pay point, report to the team leader within the facility.”
Mosia says has also urged beneficiaries to be vigilant and keep their cards and pin numbers safe at all times.
