An armed robber has been killed and another arrested after a shootout with police at OR Tambo International Airport
It’s understood a group of approximately eight suspects who were wearing a security company reflector jackets entered the cargo terminal this morning and stole a truck carrying cellphones.
The suspects were confronted by police a few kilometers away where a shootout ensued.
The police’s Vishnu Naidoo says some of the suspects fled in the hijacked truck which was later abandoned on the R24.
The other suspects are still at large.
“The moment they were arrested, two firearms were recovered, by the looks of things the truck was found with all its goods intact and a vehicle that was hijacked from the airport was also recovered. The case is under investigation.”
Vishnu says the recovered firearms will be profiled to determine if they were involved in other similar crimes.
