The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa says the address by deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa to the Muslim community at the Eidgah will focus on wishing Muslims well on their day of happiness and not be a religious or political message.
There has been much speculation and debate about Ramaphosa’s presence at the Eidgah tomorrow morning with many saying it’s a Muslim religious event and whether he should be allowed to attend
Secretary General of Jamiatul Ulama South Africa Moulana Ebrahim Bham says Ramaphosa expressed his desire to attend the Eid prayer with Muslims and out of all the options he chose the Lenasia Eidgah.
Ml. Bham says in coming to join an Eid-ul-Fitr gathering Ramaphosa has defied calls from certain quarters, that cited security and other concerns, in order to dissuade him doing so.
“For the deputy president to come and attend our Eid prayers is a matter of great happiness for us. Let us not be swayed by personal motives and agendas and nitpicking and pettiness.”
Ml Bham says Muslims should welcome Ramaphosa by attending the Eidgah in large numbers and show commitment by playing their rightful role for the overall upliftment including spiritual and moral development of the country and its people.
“This will not happen if we remain in our enclaves. This will only happen if we have the broadness of vision to share our moral teachings with our fellow country people. His presence at an Eid gathering will not diminish the value of the congregation but offer an opportunity to showcase the beauty of Islam.”
Ml Bham says the Lenasia Eidgah which is one of the better attended and organized events in the country has been operational for many years and fulfills the Shari’ requirements of an Eid Prayer.
