A 61-year-old man is recovering in a Johannesburg hospital after he was attacked by a pack of Pitbull dogs in Lenasia.
It’s understood the elderly man was walking home after Zuhr salaah (afternoon prayer) at a masjid in Nightingale Street on Saturday when he was attacked.
Pulsate ambulance’s Mohammad Reeza Rasool says the man sustained severe injuries.
“We found an elderly gentleman who has sustained deep lacerations to his left leg. On assessment we found the lacerations looked like dog bite wounds. The uncle fell and dislocated his right shoulder as well. Paramedics treated the dislocation and the dog bite wound than transported him in a stable condition to Lenmed Private Hospital.”
Meanwhile the owner of the dogs have confirmed to Radio Islam that he will pay for the medical expenses incurred by the elderly man.
The owner however failed to specify what action would be taken against the animals only saying he would have to consult his son on the matter.
Lenasia police have confirmed that a case of grievous bodily harm has been opened and the incident is being investigated.
The attack has not been reported to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
