Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 16-05-2017

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal shooting of a man on the highway off-ramp towards the OR Tambo International Airport.

It’s understood the driver of a Hyundai H1 was transporting a group of six businesspeople from Johannesburg to the airport and en route, a vehicle attempted flagged them down and hijacked them.

The passengers were abandoned by the suspects in Rhodesfield after being robbed of some of their belongings, including cellular phones.

Their driver was shot and killed by men wielding AK-47s who fled in a black VW Golf.

Acting National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khomotso Phahlane, expressed concern about the arrogance displayed by the perpetrators.

Phahlane says police will ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted, leading to the arrest and prosecution of those involved.

“The SAPS will thoroughly investigate this heinous and violent crime committed close to a national key point, the O R Tambo International Airport.”

Phahlane did not want to speculate on the motive for the crime.
