The Kruger National Park says all but one of the five lions that escaped from the reserve have now been recaptured.
The lions escaped from the park yesterday and were spotted on the N4 highway late last night close to the Swaziland border.
SanParks spokesperson Rey Thakhuli says they are working around the clock to recapture the last lion.
Thakuli says people in the area have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid venturing out on foot.
“What we’ve encountered today is a lot of spectator value. People who are going to the area are trying to chase these animals with their cars, they are trying to take pictures and that has actually disturbed us in terms of trying to recapture these animals.”
Thakhuli says the 5 male lions may have been forced out of the Kruger National Park by a dominant lion pride.
