Fair Price furniture say it has suffered losses of more than R10 million after its factory was damaged and looted in Nancefield south of Johannesburg.
Residents of Eldorado Park went on the rampage yesterday blocking roads with rocks, stones and burning tyres.
Residents are unhappy about housing issues, saying that government has let them down.
Several shops were plundered in Eldorado Park with the looting spreading to Nancefield late last night.
Fair Price’s Mohammad Hansa says hundreds of workers have been left jobless.
“It’s a sad day for a manufacturing business because this affects roughly close onto a few hundred jobs. I feel more for the staff of Fair Price because this will directly impact their lives and many more lives that our employees are supporting.”
Ironically residents say the protests are not just about housing, but also about the unemployed young people in the area.
