Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 08-05-2017

Durban police are searching for a group of suspects who robbed members of a masjid during evening prayer in Verulam in KwaZulu-Natal.

It’s understood members of Reaction Unit South Africa were alerted to an armed robbery in progress at the Hazelmere Mazaar this evening.

According to witnesses one of the suspects pointed a firearm to the head of a 14 year old boy & forced his father to open the door to the masjid before robbing the worshippers.

It’s believed the group of suspects were armed with AK47’s & pistols.

The police’s Thulane Zwane says police have opened cases of business robbery.

“On their arrival they noticed that there were a few people at the mosque who were robbed by a group of about nine suspects. They were robbed of their valuable items such as wrist watches as well cash and car keys. The suspects fled the scene.”

Zwane says no arrests have been made and no one was injured.
