Police & Red Ants Evict Ilegal Land Occupiers in Lenasia

May 03, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 03-05-2017

Police and the Red Ants have evicted residents of at least 150 informal settlements at the Water Works opposite the military base in Lenasia.

It’s understood the residents occupied the private land illegally over the Easter weekend.

Property owner Goolam Kara says an unknown man was allegedly selling plots to the residents.

“Before we knew there were about 150 shacks that were built on the farm and than they exceeded my borders over on to state property. Late Moday night through the red ants and sheriff of the court we got to start evicting these illegal land grabs and land occupiers.”

Kara says local residents and a colonel from the military base have complained to him about the mushrooming of the informal settlement.

“Residents from extension 1 were complaining Crime was escalating in the area and than I got a call from the colonel at the military base to say they started breaking into the military base and started stealing zincs and wood.”

Kara says its unclear who instructed the individual to sell the land on his property.
