Mass Jumu’ah at Union Buildings Cancelled in the Best Interests of Islam

April 06, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 05-04-2017

Social activist Yusuf Abramjee says after consulting with Muslim leaders, a mass Jumu’ah that was expected to take place on the lawns of the Union Buildings has been cancelled.

Yesterday the Muslim community were urged to join a mass Jumu’ah at the Unions buildings ahead of protests march by various civil society organisations in a collective call for President Jacob Zuma to resign, or be removed by the governing party.

Abramjee says the Jumuah was cancelled in the best interests of Islam.

“We took the decision to move the Jumu’ah prayers from the lawns of the Union Buildings to nearby mosques after speaking to a number of Ulama including the Muslim Judicial Council as well as Ml Ebrahim Bham from the Jamiatul Ulama. The decision was taken to make sure we are all united.”

Abramjee says people should feel free to join the protest after the Jumu’ah salaah.
