Emergency services have confirmed that that a second earth tremor has hit Gauteng.
The 5.2 magnitude tremor was felt throughout parts of Gauteng including Johannesburg Pretoria and Lenasia on Monday evening.
This follows an earlier 4.6 magnitude tremor that affected parts of Gauteng and the North West.
Several users reported that the tremor lasted for more than 60 seconds.
Emergency service’s Robert Mulaudzi says they are on high alert.
“From our side, we’ve got our disaster management officials throughout the city and they are monitoring any incident which occur.”
Seismologist Ian Saunders of the Council for Geoscience told Time Live the tremor was “strong” by South African standards.
“It occurred about 2km down in the goldmine areas of Krugersdorp. We have received reports of the tremor being felt in Centurion.”
No damages have been reported so far.
Reports suggest that the 5.2 quake struck as far Gaborone in Botswana.
