February 14, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 14-02-2017

A 22-year-old South African man has reportedly been killed in Syria.

Social cohesive activist Yusuf Abramjee says details are still sketchy but the Durban mans family has confirmed he may have been killed near Damascus.

“I spoke to family who confirmed the death. Which group he was fighting for is unclear.”

Abramjee says the family would release a statement later in the week but declined to disclose the man’s name or the family’s contact details.

“He apparently left SA some time ago with his brother. Details are sketchy.”

International relations department spokesperson Clayson Monyela says he is unaware of any South African killed in Syria.

Abramjee  later tweeted: “South Africans have no business going abroad and getting involved in fighting. It’s wrong!”
