Lenasia Man Has Big Plans for the Suburb

February 14, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 14-02-2017

A Lenasia man who left the suburb more than 10 years ago says there is a desperate need for the improvement of living conditions and aesthetic appeal in the township and surrounding areas.

Jonathan Doolabh from AGT Group says there has been very little development of Lenasia which has disadvantaged residents.

Doolabh says AGT which has developed the “Region G Gone Green” initiative aims to plant grass and trees to cover arid areas, improve air quality and increase wildlife (birds), upgrade pave areas and street lighting including reducing crime.

“The initiative will be in accordance to the relevant parameters set out by the City of Joburg. Any funding obtained by the City of Joburg and external funders will be utilized for the project.”

Doolabh says while Lenasia residents have been able to overcome their isolation from mainstream Johannesburg to some degree, they have been “left in the dark” as upgrades and new projects are always rolled out in the Northern suburbs.

“Many had developed strong economic involvement with the city before relocated here. As a result there are small pockets of prosperity in these areas with some larger middle-income neighbourhoods and long established social networks.”

Doolabh says the project in its entirety is structured around developing the whole of Region G which will see the street of Lenasia completely transformed.
