A 21-year-old man has been shot dead and another wounded in a drive-by shooting in Fordsburg in Johannesburg.

It’s believed Mohammad Shabier Karolia from Benoni on the East Rand and a group of his friends were driving in their car last night when suspects in a black Toyota Hilux bakkie opened fire on the vehicle.

The suspects fled the scene.

The police’s Mavela Masondo says the motive for the shooting is not known.

“We are investigating a case of murder after a 21-year-old man was shot dead. It is alleged the deceased and his friend were driving in their vehicle when suddenly suspects who were driving in a black Toyota Hilux bakkie started shooting at them.”

It’s emerged that Karolia’s friend who was also wounded during the shooting has succumbed to his injuries in hospital and has passed away.

Masondo has appealed to anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
