February 03, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 03-02-2017

Gift of the Givers says while the search for Shiraaz Mohamed has intensified, it has received information about investigations, raids in different areas and possible suspects expected to be arrested in an attempt to find the photojournalist.

Mohamed was abducted en route to the Turkish border on 10 January, near the hospital operated by the NGO.

Nothing has been heard from Mohamed or his abductors since.

Gift of the Givers says Mohamed approached the organization to facilitate his entry into Syria to document the suffering of the Syrian people by making available his photo-essays to the various agencies that he filed for.

The organizations Dr. Imtiaz Sooliman says various prisons will also be visited to determine if Mohamed had been wrongfully detained

“The speculation from all engaged is that whoever took Shiraaz made a mistake but to correct that mistake in the light of the civilian outrage is going to be very difficult. The captors are going to face severe repercussions unless they can release Shiraaz quietly without being identified.”

Sooliman says to facilitate the safe release of Mohamed, Gift of the Givers has displayed posters with a reconciliatory message for his abductors at its hospital near the Turkish boarder.
