The South African Hajj and Umrah Council (SAHUC) has confirmed that the hajj quota for South Africa has been increased to 2,500 for 1438/2017.
SAHUC says it has met with the Ministry of Hajj today and was officially notified of the 20% re-instatement of the quota that was reduced in 1433/2012.
Secretary General Hassen Choonara says they are pleased with the decision taken by the Ministry of Hajj.
“During our deliberations, the SAHUC protocol team further requested for an increase in the quota in excess of the 2,500. The ministry advised they will consider.”
The previous hajj quota for South Africa was 1,950.
According to SAHUC it will release a hajj accreditation list with the additional quota soon.
