The Heidelberg Muslim Jamaat is appealing for assistance after one of the oldest masjids in Gauteng was ravaged by floods.
Heavy rain in the town after a cloud burst this week caused extensive damage to the Heidelberg Masjid collapsing walls and destroying carpets and underfloor heating.
Chairperson of the Heidelberg Muslim Jamaat Yusuf Khan says the masjid which is more than 100 years old desperately needs assistance.
“The Heidelberg Muslim Town Masjid has been flooded destroying some of the carpets, underfloor and underfloor heating as well and major collapse of the outside wall. We are appealing to the Muslim Community to donate generously to repair or renovate some of the items that have been damaged.”
