Reports have emerged that Umrah visa fees have been revised.
Details are sketchy but it’s believed that the visa cost of SR 2000 has been amended from the 1st of Muharram 1438 for those who have not been on umrah during the hijri calendar.
It’s also reported that each person will not pay the SR 2000 visa fee during a hijri year and if a person embarks on Umrah for a second time the cost will apply.
Details of the reports also indicate that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fee (MOFA) of R 1600 is still applicable.
Travel agent and spokesperson for the South African Muslim Travel Association (SAMTA) Fazila Malek told Radio Islam the MOFA computer system is accepting Umrah visa applications for those who have not been for Umrah during a hijri calendar.
“Alhamdulillah they have brought it down to at least now instead of being once in three years they brought it once a year which is I think fair and I think if one goes repeatedly meaning in each Hijri calendar. So in other words if one goes now in December and goes back again in June for Ramadan they would pay the SR 2000 fee, I think its fair to the government.”
Meanwhile Malek says details surrounding business visas are still being discussed by the ministry and hopefully there will be consensus reached soon.
