A 54-year-old woman has been killed and another person wounded during a shootout with police in Lenasia South.
Police say officers from the Lenasia South police station responded to a complaint of a shooting incident in Extension 1 early this morning when they were fired upon from an unknown vehicle in the area.
Spokesperson Mzwakhe Xazi says a 19-year-old teenager was also wounded in the leg during the shootout.
“Police officers returned fire, after the incident that motor vehicle decided to speed off. Our police officers just had to give chase up until at Lenmed Hospital. Preliminary investigations have revealed that a 54-year-old female sustained some gunshot and unfortunately is deceased.”
Xazi says the matter has been referred to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for further investigation.
