Residents of Zakariyya Park, Vlakfontein and Lehae near Lenasia are demanding an urgent meeting with Gauteng Mayor Herman Mashaba following persistent water shortages.
Since the beginning November the three areas have been experiencing severe water shortages with taps running dry.
Residents say Joburg Water and their local ward councillor Ace Mokenyane have failed to address their concerns.
Social activist Yusuf Abramjee says the City of Johannesburg and Joburg Water needs to address the problem with urgency.
“Water is a basic human right and much as we have to save water, we all have to work together. For communities to be without regular water supply is a real problem. The mayor of Johannesburg has been in touch with me and he’s escalated the matter to the mayoral committee member and we hope that action will be taken to resolve this crisis”
One of the worst hit areas is Zakariyya Park Combined School.
Learners are being released early from school every day because of the health risks.
