The South African Hajj and Umrah Council (SAHUC) says it has been informed by the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Pretoria that it has not received any feedback regarding Umrah visa fees from the authorities in the kingdom.
Currently the system requires a fee of SR 2,000 in addition to a SR 450 MOFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) fee if one has visited the Kingdom for Umrah in the last three years.
SAHUC’s Hassen Choonara says the hajj body will continue to support an international appeal to review the Umrah visa fee.
“SAHUC has written to the government of Saudi Arabia via the embassy in appealing to the government to review the Umrah visa fees.”
Meanwhile the Anti-Visa Fee Committee (AVFC) which was formed last month to address the exorbitant visa charges said South African Muslims not comfortable with the high Umrah visa fees should consider delaying their pilgrimage hoping that Saudi authorities may consider scraping or reducing the charges.
