Former IDF Soldier: “There is Nothing Great About Israeli Occupation of Palestine”

August 31, 2016

Faizel Patel, 2016-08-31

A former Israeli Defence Force (IDF) soldier says while the occupation of Palestine makes great films, there is nothing great about Israeli occupation of Palestine.

Tamar Yarom was addressing delegates about her award winning film “To see if I’m smiling” at the three-day International Media Seminar on Peace in the Middle East in Pretoria today.

The film which focuses on the story of five female soldiers in the occupied Palestinian territory has won the Best Documentary Award at the Haifa International Film Festival and 13 international awards.

Yarom says many people are distraught after seeing the films about the occupation of Palestine by Israel

“A lot of people after swing these films are moved, and usually are very depressed and feel helpless. What can I do? Some smart woman told me once, that the responsibility is the ability to respond, and that is the saying I take with me when I felt helpless.”

Yarom says while she hopes the documentaries will give the Palestinians the resolve that the occupation will end, many people think they are naive, crazy and childish.
