First batch of South African Hujaaj depart Wednesday

August 02, 2016

Radio Islam | 02 August 2016

The first official batch of South Africa’s 2000 accredited pilgrims for Hajj 1437 are set to depart for the Holy Lands on Wednesday, 03 August.

At 10.25am, a Saudi Arabian Airlines flight will depart from the OR Tambo International Airport for Jeddah, transporting approximately 90 Hujaaj. Other flights throughout the day, from Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, will see a total of 190 pilgrims being ferried to Saudi Arabia on the first day of outbound Hajj flights for the 1437 Hajj season.

SAHUC officials will be present at the ports of departure to render assistance to Hujaaj. The Hajj regulator’s support and medical staff are already stationed in Saudi Arabia and are expected to meet Hujaaj upon their arrival in the Kingdom.

Travel Advice For Hujaaj

*Have consideration for fellow travellers when saying farewell to family and friends at the airport. Do not block walkways, and ensure you give priority to your check-in and boarding times to avoid last minute panic

*Don’t carry liquids beyond the airport specified quantities, nor any other items that are prohibited by aviation regulations

*Ensure that any foreign currency you carry is within the regulated amount, and is accompanied by a credible receipt

*If you are carrying heavy duty medication, ensure that it is accompanied by a prescription, and approval letter from a medical practitioner

*Carry with you your vaccination card showing proof of yellow fever and meningitis immunisation

*Whilst travelling, always notify a fellow traveller if you proceed to a bathroom or shop, or need to separate from the group for any need

*Always hold tight to travel documents

*In Saudi Arabia, especially during the days of Hajj, follow the advice of group leaders on the specified times to carry out certain Hajj rituals

*Be aware of keeping hydrated in Saudi Arabia. Drink a lot of Zam Zam, and keep yourself properly covered to avoid sunstroke

*Select a pair of comfortable walking shoes(sandals) for the journey
