The Lenasia Muslim School (LMS) has unanimously decided to uphold it original decision to appoint Nasreen Suliman as principal of the institution.
Ashraf Patel will remain in his position as deputy principal.
Last week students and even some parents protested outside the school against the board of governor’s decision to appoint Suliman to replace outgoing Principal Rashid Mohamed (Archie) from November.
The learners claim that current deputy principal Ashraf Patel should have been appointed as the head of the school.
In a statement, spokesperson for LMS Moulana Yahya Bham says members of the board convened an urgent meeting and met with a delegation of learners and parents to address their concerns about the appointment of Suliman instead of Patel.
“Their request was that the board of governors reconsider their decision and that their opinions be taken into consideration when such appointments are made.”
Ml Bham says LMS observes strict procedures and protocols in the appointment of principals and deputy principals.
“We must reassure parents that the board debates all matters thoroughly and takes all matters into consideration with a long term view and the best interest of the learners, educators and parents in mind before making this very important decision.”
Ml Bham says the protest by the students and parents have brought the school into disrepute and emphasized that similar behavior in the future would result in suspension and disciplinary action being taken against those involved.
