With less than a day to go before the 2016 municipal elections, a political analyst has told Radio Islam that many South Africans are at a crossroad as they remain undecided on whom to vote for.

At least 26 million people registered to vote in the 2016 local elections which kicks-off tomorrow across South Africa.

Political Analyst Mzoxolo Mpolase spoke to Ml Sulaiman Ravat on Sabahul Muslim this morning on his view regarding the elections.

Mpolase says many of the party’s that are on offer either have too much of history or skeletons in the closet.
“The visions which are being outlined by new entrants, by smaller parties are really not responding to the current South African situation, which makes it difficult for people to choose.”

He says people are in a country where populous politics has taken shape forgetting the needs of ordinary South Africans.

“It’s not something unique at all, it is an experience of many dissatisfied voters, with the party obtained in that constituency has not delivered, but ultimately it is a lack of choice or a lack of alternatives in some cases.”

Mpolase questions that if voters are forced to resort to choosing the lesser evil of different political parties, is there any value of this process in South Africa.

“It should be about inspiring voter choices, about inspiring a sense of confidence in the future, a sense of confidence in public institutions being able to be delivered upon a certain party, but sadly we do not have that.”

Mpolase adds that people’s opinions change right till the ‘very second’ before they make their mark on the ballot paper.
