Lenasia Councillor Blames ANC for Failing to Provide Resources to Govern DA Ward

July 26, 2016

Faizel Patel, 2016-07-26

A local Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor responsible for Ward 9 in Lenasia has accused the African National Conference (ANC) of failing to provide sufficient resources to effectively govern the Ward in the suburb instead of her own party.

Ward 9 includes portions of extension 1, 2, 3 5, 7, 8, 13 and half of 11A which is a governed by the DA.

The party’s Abdia Bennie told Radio Islam she tried to serve the community but there was little help from the ANC.

“The ANC is still in power, they have the budget, they’re the ruling party and the resources comes from the ANC itself.”

Bennie has come under severe criticism from the community for lacking in assisting with service delivery issues.

She says she has decided not to run as ward councillor for the upcoming municipal elections because of alleged favouritism.

“I feel the selection panel the DA had went very wrong. They selected people on questions and answers and your chairperson and political head promoting certain people. Whoever ran the selection panel never ever came to ward 9, doesn’t know where is ward 9 and don’t know the challenges in Ward 9. The DA clearly chose an opportunist to stand in Ward 9.”

The local municipal elections will take place on the 3 of August 2016.
