While Muslims have been urged to buy only the 10 litre bottles of Zam Zam, Radio Islam has learnt that some retailers are also packing the water into smaller bottles.
Last week The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa urged Muslims to be cautious about Islamic outlets that are selling bottles of Zam Zam water that may be allegedly fake and filled with ordinary tap water.
A source has told Radio Islam that Zam Zam packed into smaller capacities from the original 10 litre bottle are NOT fake.
“There are big Islamic shops which have the original 10 litre Zam Zam, but they are packing in small bottles like 2 litres, 5 litres, 1 litre and 500ml. We want to tell the Muslims to buy only from these shops because they have the original Zam Zam in their stores ”
While the original Zam Zam is packed into 10 litre bottles with the words “Zam Zam” clearly machine stamped onto the cap and the bottle itself, will have a blue and the date of packaging in Makkah, the fake 5 litre will have no stamps and a purple label.
The source has advised Muslims to only buy smaller bottles packed only from the 10 litre bottle of Zam Zam not the 5 litre and if possible request a taste of the water before purchasing.
Zam Zam water which is derived from the well of Zam Zam in Makkah, Saudi Arabia is widely consumed in South Africa during the blessed month of Ramadaan.
