May 31, 2016

Faizel Patel, 2016-05-31

A 43-year-old man who was doused with petrol, set alight and left for dead on the N17 toll road between Ermelo and Bethal in Mpumalanga has passed away.

Goolam Hoosein Dockrat was hijacked on the outskirts of the town yesterday after leaving his home to go for Fajr salaah (early Morning Prayer).

Tollgate operators and security noticed the fire and stopped a passing motorist who assisted Docrat and rushed him to the local hospital.

Police have appealed to the community to assist with any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect/s.

Ermelo resident and Radio Islam presenter Moulana Junaid Jassat says the family and entire community is devastated by the tragic incident.

“Sadly Goolam Hoosein Dockrat succumbed to his injuries after being burnt yesterday. He’s survived by a wife and two teenage sons who now have to fend for themselves but with the support of the broader family they’ll make it through.”
