A 16-year-old pupil from the Benoni Muslim School has been found murdered in Actonville, Benoni, east of Johannesburg.

It’s understood the body of Saadiqah Alli Baccus was found by a family member yesterday with her throat apparently slit.

The police’s Tsekiso Mofokeng says they are investigating a case of murder.

“The police are investigating a case of murder after the body of a 16-year-old girl was found inside the house by a family member. There were visible injuries sustained on the upper body of the victim. We are investigating the motive behind the murder.”

Mofekeng says they are appealing to the community of Actonville to assist the police with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect/s.

Spokesperson for the Benoni Muslim School Moulana Yusuf Asvat, told Radio Islam the family is devastated by the murder.

“Its a traumatic time for the family, the class girls in school, the country and ummah also. We feel the pain of what has happened.”

Moulana Asvat says he last spoke to Saadiqah yesterday describing her as a bubbly and pleasant learner.

He says counselling would be provided to fellow grade 11 pupils at the school.
