1,950 SA Muslims Accredited for Hajj 2016

April 25, 2016

Faizel Patel, 2016-04-25

As Hajj 2016 draws close, at least 1,950 South African Muslims have been accredited to perform pilmgrimage in Saudi Arabia this year.

The South African Hajj and Umrah Council (SAHUC) released the hajj accreditation list for 2016 yesterday.

President of SAHUC Shaheen Essop says people that have been successfully accredited should accept the nomination and select a hajj operator of their choice as soon as possible.

“Those successful hujjaj have until the 3rd of May until 11pm to accept their accreditation and choose their hajj operators, failing which if no activity is complete or nothing is done, than they will be cancelled and will unfortunately be moved to the back of the queue.”

Essop has warned prospective hujaaj not to sign a blank contract with a hajj operator.

“They must ensure that they sign a complete contract based on the services they have been told that they’d be getting in order to protect themselves and also to make sure there is ease of reference from a perspective of any disputes that may arise down the line.”

Essop says the diminished hajj quota is based on construction in the haram in Saudi Arabia and also on the number of Muslims that are in South Africa.
