One person has been killed and at least 30 others injured after two buses collided head-on on the R568 in Kwa-Mhlanga, Mpumalanga.
Rescue officers from the provincial services had to use the jaws-of-life to gain access to the vehicles to allow paramedics to safely extricate the patients this morning.
ER24’s Russel Meiring says early morning mist may have contributed to the cause of the collision but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
“On inspection, paramedics found the lifeless body of one of the bus drivers lying inside the bus. The driver lay trapped from the waist down and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing more could be done for the patient and he was later declared dead.”
Meiring says the patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to various facilities for further treatment.
