City of Cape Town Offers 50k Reward for Arrest of Taxi Driver Who Fled Scene of Fatal Crash

March 08, 2016

Umm Muhammed Umar, 2016-03-08

The City of Cape Town is offering a R 50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a minibus taxi driver who fled the scene of a fatal collision in which a traffic officer was killed.

It’s understood the driver lost control of the minibus taxi and veered into oncoming traffic colliding head on with 35-year-old Faried Galant’s vehicle this morning.

The city’s JP Smith says Galant had been driving towards the Hillstar traffic department.

Galant was declared dead on the scene.

“We are shocked and saddened by the death of yet another of our members. Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer’s Galant’s wife and his three children as well as the extended family.”

Smith says The City would provide the family with counselling and other support. – The Times
