#IsraeliApartheidWeek Launched

March 06, 2016

Mohamed Ameen Dabhelia – 06/03/2016

A letter has been written by a group of Jewish Israeli citizens urging South Africans in general and members of the South African Jewish community in particular to participate in this year’s #IsraeliApartheidWeek campaign.

Media will be attending an interfaith press conference today at Freedom Park Museum, a place known for reflection and remembrance for a free South Africa.

The press conference will launch the South African leg of the annual international Israeli Apartheid Week awareness-raising campaign taking place in SA between 7 and 13 March.

Boycott Divestment and Sanctions Spokesperson Kwara Kekana says this is a week-long dedicated campaign raising awareness against Israel’s apartheid policies against indigenous Palestinians.

“This press conference will see different members from different faiths come together, somebody from the Jewish community will come, somebody from the Christian community will come and somebody from the Muslim community will come”.

The interfaith press conference will also be addressed by visiting Israeli author and academic Dr Uri Davis.

Davis, of Jewish origin, grew up in the Israeli locality of Kefar Shmariyahu and is today an Associate Professor at Al-Quds University in Jerusalem, Palestine.
