The United Nations Human Rights Committee is expected to review South Africa and six other countries for human rights abuses as sanctioned by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).
South Africa has been brought under question following cases such as the xenophobic violence that broke out in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng last year including the Marikana massacre on 16th August 2012.
The committee which is made up of a panel of 18 international independent experts focuses on issues that involves torture, ill treatment and excessive use of force by police
Other countries under question include Namibia, Sweden, New Zealand, Slovenia, Costa Rica and Rwanda.
The date for the review has been set down for the 7th and 8th of this month.
