Pikitup Workers Will Not End Strike Until Demands Are Met

November 27, 2015

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News, 2015-11-27

As refuse piles up across the city and suburbs, Pikitup workers say they will not end their strike until their demands are met.

Workers are demanding a basic salary of R 10,000 and say they will not allow the use of casual workers by the company which has brought them in while an unprotected strike over wages continues.

Yesterday workers protested in the city centre overturning rubbish bins and stopping others from working.

Pikitup management has obtained a court interdict to end the strike which began on Monday and given workers a final ultimatum to return to work.

The South African Municipal Workers Unions (SAMWU) says it’s willing to end the strike as soon as management agrees to its demands.- EWN
