MRN’s Zaakir Ahmed Mayet Listed as Top 200 Young South Africans

July 31, 2015

Chairman of the NGO in the struggle against Islamophobia Media Review Network (MRN), Zaakir Ahmed Mayet says being listed as a top young South African is a truly humbling experience.

Mayet a law graduate has been included on the Mail and Guardian’s list of “Top 200 Young South Africans.”

He says the work the MRN does is actually the reason why he was placed on the list.

“It’s because we have always stood for justice, we voice our opinions on many of the conflicts of the war on terror that the United States has embarked on, the war against Muslims with Islamophobia in the western world and currently many other conflicts inspired by western colonialism.”

Mayet says it’s not an accolade for himself but more for the MRN and the people behind the work that is done by the organisation.

“I think that we have many bright young minds, that have inspired myself from high schools around the area in Lenasia and I think after interacting with them I am very hopeful for the future.”

Mayet says he believes that justice has been inculcated into each and every person.

“Differences will be made, provided we give them opportunities and I think that’s the challenge for our society at the moment.”

The Mail and Guardian has published its list of “young stars who are shaping the country’s future” annually for the past 10 years.
