Mail & Guardian Consults Staff about Retrenchments

July 21, 2015

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News, 2015-07-21

The Mail & Guardian newspaper has confirmed that it’s currently talking to staff about retrenchments but says its part of a structural change that has to take into account where the media industry is going.

Eyewitness News reported that other sources confirmed earlier reports that the paper wants to cut 25 jobs.

It’s understood 16 of the jobs could be cut on the editorial section of the newspaper.

However officials won’t confirm that saying they are going through a particular process at the moment.

But other newspapers also had to cut staff while in the US and Europe many papers shutdown altogether as news content has moved online and people have simply stopped buying papers.
