Ogaden Somali and Oromo Communities will be protesting against Human rights violations committed by Ethiopia and the Ethiopian regime at the African Union summit at the Sandton convention centre in Johannesburg today.
The communities say the Ethiopian regime led by minority ethnic Tigre creates racial lines in Ethiopian society have been abusing power for the past 20 years.
It says the Tigre causes a series damage economically, politically and to the social life of the country forcing a large number of the youth to emigrate, searching for safety and a better life.
Director of the Ogaden Community in South Africa Mohamed Adan says the Ogaden territory is on the door step of African Union but their plight has never been raised by the organization.
“There are many other issues they are going to give the chance, so we ask them to give a chance to our concerns. We are operating a free movement, but no one is supporting us.”
He says since the illegal annexation of Ogaden to Ethiopia by European powers in 1954, Ogaden people were subjected to untold atrocities in the hands of Ethiopian regimes.
“There is no fair elections, there is no basic human rights, there is no health facility, media, schools and other necessary services,” said Adan.
Adan says they have a right as citizens of Africa that their voices and concerns be adequately addressed at the Current AU Summit.
