MLA Not Done With Egyptian President Yet

June 15, 2015

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News, 2015-06-15

The Muslim Lawyers Association says it will persist in seeking a warrant for the arrest of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi despite the cancellation of his trip to South Africa.

SISI was due to arrive in South Africa on Sunday for the African Union Summit.

The MLA had lodged an official complaint calling for the National Directorate of Public Prosecutions to investigate the Egyptian president and officials and bring them to trial for alleged war crimes, crimes against humanity and gross human rights violations.

The MLA’s Yousha Tayob says the MLA is not giving up on the Egyptian president yet

“The fact that he’s not arrived just takes away the urgency around the immediate issue of the warrant, but we will still persist with it.”

He says the MLA will still persist with the docket and request South African authorities to help… failing which they will refer the complaint to the International Criminal Court.

“If South Africa or the ICC issues this warrant, it will be applicable internationally in all signatory states, there will then be a warrant out for his arrest.”

Tayob say this is only part of the battle and the MLA will continue until SISI is finally prosecuted.
