Lenasia Community Raises Concerns About Park that will become a Taxi Rank

June 13, 2015

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News, 2015-06-13

The Abu Bakr Asvat Foundation and Lenasia Active Citizenry committee have expressed concerns about a park in Lenasia that will be converted into a taxi rank.

The organizations says building a taxi rank in the park opposite the Nur ul Islam mosque will exacerbate the traffic congestion on a Nirvana Drive and pose a danger to pedestrians and other motorists.

Lenasia Active Citizenry representative Mohammad Azhar Bulbulia says they are seeking a solution to finding a suitable “holding area” for the transport operators

“We welcome the scholar transport, but presently where it’s going to be it’s going to be spoiling the aesthetics of the area as well as causing congestion.

“The JRA has already taken a decision to build a scholar transport in the park. This is totally unacceptable as we need broader public participation,” said Bulbulia.

Officials involved with the proposals for the holding area will be having a meeting today with the public to discuss the way forward.
