Threat from ISIS Could be a Hoax – Moulana Shabier Saloojee

April 09, 2015

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News, 2015-04-09

Moulana Shabier Ahmed Saloojee the principal of Darul Uloom Zakariyya has told Radio Islam that an article in The Times newspaper that claims he had received threatening phone calls after speaking out about ISIS has been sensationalized.

“I think that this person who interviewed us has misrepresented the article completely.  We didn’t say that, we just told them one anonymous call received, nothing more than that.”

“This sensationalizes the whole thing and he’s quoted us completely out of context,” Moulana Saloojee said.

Moulana Saloojee said he was unsure if the call was a hoax. “It was nothing threatening, just to be careful that’s all.”

Moulana Saloojee emphasized that any zulm (oppression) by anyone in the name of Islam  must be spoken out against.

“And very important to take into ISIS consideration is that the Ulama, the Sunni, the true Ulama of Iraq and Syria has no respect for ISIS.”

“More than 300 Sunni Ulama have been slaughtered by ISIS in Iraq. The senior Ulama of Sham have also completely distanced themselves from ISIS, so under those circumstances, I don’t know how anybody can support ISIS.”

Moulana Saloojee said the Ulama have the Shariah to guide them to tackle ISIS and also educate people about the group.

He warned that people must be careful of information being disseminated on social media as the information might be false and inaccurate. “If one person gets hold of some news and then it just goes around without any investigation.”

“What is very concerning about ISIS is the importance that it is getting from the mainstream media.”

“Allah Ta’ala knows who’s behind ISIS and what their objectives are and the freedom of movement that they have. The powers have the ability to stop it so that’s very, very confusing,” he said.

Moulana Saloojee said people should abstain from unnecessary mongering about ISIS and rather focus their responsibility on the local community and poor people who are suffering.

“We have a good relationship with our government and I think we should put our concentration and efforts in uplifting the poor people that are around us and bring the true message of Islam forward.”

The true message of Islam is, of love, of peace and also of standing up against the oppression that is taking place in the world,“ said Moulana Saloojee.
