Jamiatul Ulama Hands Over New Home to Soweto Resident

March 26, 2015

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News, 2015-03-26

A woman from Zone 4 Diepkloof in Soweto is relieved to be returning to her renovated home after it was petrol bombed by an alleged drug dealer.

Valentia Colbert also known as Rahima told 702’s John Robbie her house was gutted by a petrol bomb last year after she blew the whistle on drug dealers and drug hot spots in the area.

Community members appealed for help from Jamiatul Ulama South Africa’s Welfare Department who came to her assistance by renovating and restoring her home.

Yesterday Colbert was handed back the keys to her newly renovated home by members of the Jamiat which included Moulana Asad Pandor and Moulana Ismail Varachia.

Colbert thanked the Jamiat and says she’s excited to be back home.

“I feel grateful, I feel relieved now my house is fixed and I really appreciate what the Jamiat has done for me and my family, now we’ve got a new home.”

Moulana Ismail Varachia, head of the Jamiatul Ulama South Africa’s Welfare Department said it was an honour to assist Colbert.

“It’s an honour for the Jamiatul Ulama to assist sister Rahima…This is going to be our contribution towards her difficulty she had experienced.”

Community member Omar Duma said more projects like this should be initiated when the need arises.

“This has set a good example to the community of Muslims and non-Muslims in the township…Jamiat and its sponsors has come to the rescue of a single mother who has four children.”

“We hope this must continue and other people must also get help in the situation,” said Duma.

Colbert has urged councillors and authorities to tackle the ongoing drug problems which has plagued the area.
