“Lack of Service Delivery Haunts Thembelihle” – DA

March 17, 2015

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News, 2015-03-16

The Democratic Alliance says the death of two men in Thembelihle informal settlement in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg in what is believed to be over the alleged use of illegal electricity are symptomatic of a city that is failing its residents.

On Saturday two men from the informal settlement lost their lives when they allegedly fought over the use of illegal electricity.

It’s believed that the two men had a fight when the one man pulled a knife and stabbed the other man killing him.

An outraged crowd then took the law into their hands stoning the killer to death.

The DA’s Nico De Jager says  the City of Johannesburg should use the allocated budgets to provide services to residents.

“The man problem is the fact that the city keeps on making promises to Thembelihle residents about housing etc., so it becomes a very volatile situation and the people are very angry.”

Residents are demanding housing, electricity and sanitation and refuse their grievances to be addressed by anyone else but the MEC for Human Settlements Jacob Mamabolo.

Last week protesters blocked roads with burning tyres, stoned cars, threatened to burn down schools and allegedly petrol bombed a police station.
