Police have confirmed that a 6-year-old boy abducted from Jamia Islamia Madrassah in Nelspruit has been found unharmed and reunited with his family.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Leonard Hlathi said the police engaged themselves into an effective investigation and were successful.

“I can confirm that a 6-year-old boy was kidnapped from school on Friday in Nelspruit. The police worked tirelessly to make sure that the child was recovered.”

“Five men were arrested including Pakistani and South African nationals. They are going to face charges of kidnapping and we are sure that other charges will be leveled against them,” said Colonel Hlathi.

The boy was abducted on Friday afternoon after he was approached by a person who is believed to be known to him.

The kidnappers demanded a million rand for the boys release, failing which they would kill him.

Colonel Hlathi said the investigations are continuing.
