Baragwanath Hospital Officials Suspended Over Decomposing Body

February 19, 2015

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News, 2015-02-20

Four Hospital staff members from Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital have been suspended for leaving the body of an 18-year-old woman decomposing for days.

Bacebile Mbete reportedly died at the hospital on Friday from complications due to an ectopic pregnancy but her body was only taken to the mortuary on Monday.

“This follows preliminary investigations around the transportation of the body from the ward to the mortuary and the manner in which it was kept,” spokesperson Prince Hamnca said in a statement.

“The department has come to a conclusion that some officials have a case to answer.”

The four were suspended pending full investigations and disciplinary hearings.
